Practice essay # 9
Dear Mr. Mayor
Are you one of those people who would like to spend more time with your children?. Improving the life of families is difficult but I understand that giving free day care 9 hours per day to parent who have children or giving parents a small amount of money to spend more time at home with their children are difficult choices. However, I consider giving free day care for children is the best choice to improve the life of families for three factors: Society improvement, Parents worriless and children care.
Society improvement is a good statement to discuss because children always have been considered as our future. Some attention and care in parents toward children change when children are not in the right place. This also produce bad manners and conducts which people can avoid when children get special care by the time their parent work. I’m sure that giving free care for children will help to the society improvement because we are taking care about our future when children become professional as well.
Parents need not to be worried about their children, so they can also take a break of their children when they are not at home or working because they know someone is taking care of them. In fact, not to be worried make parents be more patients when they don’t stress out too much.
Society and Parents issues are important but children care is the most. Statistics are shown that children care has been an important factor to prevent children injure. We all know that children always go back and forth, so that is the moment when children need more attention and care.
According with this three factors discussed in this essay – children care, Parents worriless and society improvement – I think give free day care for 9 hours per day to parents is the best choice to improve lives of families

Essay # 8 Luis Fonsi (album)

Composition # 8 Draft # 1

Luis Fonsi: Palabras del silencio
by Salomon Sanchez
Luis fonsi is one of Latin pop's most accomplished vocalists, who born in Puerto Rico, this
kind of music is generally romantic but some of his songs are singing in salsa genere. The
album "palabras del silencio" was Luis Fonsi's first studio album in three years. He has been
released six albumes in which Comenzare was the first is his carrer in 1998.
"Palabras del silencio" has 12 songs. They are all romantic songs but one of the songs was
singed in salsa. All of this songs exress the protagonist's feeling very well. i have three
favorite songs in this album. First, I like the song llueve por dentro. This song describes the
moment when you are in love with someone and you don't want her to leave, and he feels
really bad when she is not with him, that is why the title is translated as rain inside. My
second favorite song is Aqui estoy yo, this is about a guy is in love with a girl who doesn't
even notice that he exists but he still waiting for her because he loves her. Also this song is
singed by two protagonist, Luis Fonsi and a very famous singer from Yucatan, Mexico, Alex
Sintek, The last song in the album is called No me doy por vencido. The emotions on this kind
of music seems to me amaizing because he tries to explain in this song that even when a girl
looks so difficult to catch, no one has to give up. well, unless she tells you leave alone you are
so stupid!.
My three favorite moments come all over throug the album. The story when sometimes
you don't know the girl but you think she is the right for you or what about when you really
love someone who is already in a relationship with another guy and than you became to be a
perfect loser hopping someday she loves him. Actually in all this moments the protagonist
tries to give us the good way of the situation not thinking about to take revange. Finally in
the song Aqui estoy yo is a really good song because I consider is perfect to tell someone you
love her with out words just a song.
About the whole album i would give a weak four star raiting except for the three songs i
explaned 'coz those decerve the strong five. i recomend this album to people who like to
express deeply love feeling to someone else by music. Pop music is not always romantic and
danceable but has a powerful clear meaning.

SINGLES (movie review)
The movie "Singles" was released in 1992 directed by Cameron Crowe this movie
fallows the lives of several singles in Seattle, i liked this movie because I'm 20 years old
and i identify myself with experiences they crossed through, the principal caracteres are
Steve (Campbell SScott), who works for the Department of Transport, and deals with
trying to solve the deadlock on the highways. He is trying to push through his idea for a
supertrain, that will get people out or their cars and hence chear up the congestion on the
readways, Linda (Kyra Sedwick) who works for enviromental lobbyists, she loves control
in her life yet paradoxically wants to give it up and like her state of moral contradiction,
Cliff (Matt Dilon) is a grunge musician who is the antithesis of the perfect boyfriend and
Janet (Bridget Fonda) is the woman who lives upstairs and is in love with him. Debbie
(Sheila Kelley) is an advertising executive who has a free video-dating subscription to use
up to find the perfect man.
I really love a scene when Linda is singging and she just wanted to call Steve, so she
pick up the phone to call him, later on somebody pick up the phone in the other line and
she start telling him such of sexual phrases like I need you and some others, so the guy
who picked up the phone wasn't Steave , was another guy and he said something like," i
don't know where he is but I'll be right over"
The movie" Singles" deal with rituals of single life like, Who calls who first? How many
days do you wait before you call? Who acknowledges each phase of the relationship and
when? When do you let yourself go and when do you play cool? These are the questions
that the characters soul-search about. When Cliff doesn't show up at Janet's place one
lonely Saturday night, she begins to play emotional games in order to decide what to do
(if she sinks a basket, she'll call him... no, make it two out of three... and so on).
I recomend the movie "singles" because i think the movie has scenes in which we
can feel identify with them. Also this movie seems to be easy to understand and it has
important daily lenguage.

Essay # 6 Censorship

Salomon Sanchez
November 26, 2009
Composition # 6, Draft # 1
CENSORSHIP

The word “sensor” means to delete anything considered objectionable , this usually happens when some people in imposing their political or moral values on others by suppressing words, images, or ideas that they find offensive. A censor , traditionally, is an official whose job it's to examine literature, movies or other forms or creative expression and to remove or ban anything she considers not having the right qualities for a particular person, purpose or situation. Here I will mention some of those: painting called “The Holly Virgin Mary”, song “suicide solution” and “MTV programs”.
In 1999, the Brooklyn Museum of art had an exhibition with a controversial painting, Chris Ofili, a young English painter who had African roots, made a painting called The Holly Virgin Mary, using Elephant excrement and obscene pictures out from adult magazines. Mayor Giuliani and some Catholic were offended by the painting. They believed it was disrespectful for Catholics and the Virgin Mary. Giuliani threatened the BMA that he would take away public funding if they keep the picture in the exhibition. The BMA wanted to challenge him by keeping the painting in the show. The censorship was not successful because it was against the First Amendment. Joan Berlin, the head of the National Coalitin Against Censorship, supported the BMA also. She thought that the community had the right to make the decision about what they wanted to see or not. The government is not allowed to take away financial support just because it was offensive for some of them. I do not agree because I believe that everybody has the power for opinion and expressed by themselves, so is not fair that the government tells you what you have to do.
In 1980 Ozzy Osborne released a song called “suicide solution” which is a heavy metal genre. John McCollum’s a 19- years-old boy shouted himself with a gun while he was listening to this song. John’s parents wanted to punish Ozzy Osborne for what had happened because they thought the suicide solution song allowed their son to kill himself. His parents demanded Ozzy by taking him on a court which dismissed the McCollum’s complaint holding that the freedom of speech was absolute prohibit, than they appealed again but the second court agreed with the first one that there was nothing in Ozzy’s song that allowed anyone to kill themselves. Finally the court confirm that he has the constitutional right to express any view he wants. I agree because finally that was just a song, there were nobody telling this boy to kill himself.
In the 90’s the MTV program was been subject of debate. The famous animated program called “beavis and butt-head” wake of cotroversy that followed a child bourning down his house after allegedly watching the show. The parents television council has argued that much of the censored material on MTV can be easily dicernible because of the context within where the material in question has been presented. Producers moved the show from the original 7 p.m. Time slot to a late-night, 11 p.m. Slot and scenes were removed from esisting episodes before rebroadcst. I think that evey program we watch depends from what perspective we got from it, and I agree to keep the program but not to let children watch it.
Definitely, thise three factors we disscused in this essay - “MTV programs” ,song “suicide solution” and painting called “The Holly Virgin Mary”,- are a good example too see how important is censorship in some kind of programs, songs or art. Sometimes the effect produced by tv shows is not adecuate but either when parents let their children to watch them.

Practice Essay
Dear Mr Mayor:
Let's think about what would be better to the community. Deciding what to do with funds you have gotten is not easy. Used the money on schools in bad neighborhoods or improve neighborhoods near toristic attractions are important issues. Definitely spending the money on scools in bad neighborhood in the best for the community for some reasons.
Students will keep themselfs healthy. First of all, getting a gym in good conditions. Students who like to work out ofter classes keep their mind and body health out of vandalism and focus in school. Secondly making clubs to join into a froups for sports. We can consider this kind of sport clubs like a present for those guys who like to keep high score. Finally get those places to make it posible. Sometimess what is diffucult to get is the place where students can do sport activities.
The classrooms are needed to increase the probability for more students to come. First of all, students need conputer tecnology to get their work finished at this time , one of the nost important recourses in school are computers because teachers give asigments which have veen done by internet. Secondly the enough furniture permit the students get faster in class. Sometimes students who came to class late have problems trying to get a chair from other classrooms. Finally, students need different lenses from different teachers.

Essay # 4 High Fidelity ( Rob )

Salomon Sanchez

November 13, 2009

Composition # 4 Draft # 2

ROB
How big are the effects when you break up with someone else? Of course we have had dumpers through our life. Which are not a good experience unless you try to finished it in good terms right!; otherwise she is going to hate you forever for breaking up with her and for some reason you will doomed to be a loser toward the person affected. Rob is a guy who tells us about his top five dumpers and humiliations in High Fidelity. How his life became bored and miserable with each of his break ups. Rob shows in all these experiences that feels like a loser because women always left him for another guy.
Alison Ashworth was the first split up in Rob's life. Alison cheated on Rob because she didn't take the relationship so seriously. Rob and Alison wanted to try new experiences like the first kiss boyfriends and girlfriend everywhere, and it was the moment where they both thought about how he would feel to kiss like people in that way with mouths and tongues and all that. But was because maybe he wanted to try other things too like sex Friday nights at the cinema, company and conversation. So on page 7 Rob said "at the fourth night of their relationship, I turned up in the park and Alison was sitting on the bench with her arm around Kevin Bannister.” Obviously, they were kissing each other and cheating on Rob. He felt so bad and disappointed. When he saw that he did not know what to do and his face got red, suddenly forgot how to walk without being aware or every single part of his body. What to do and where to go, also on page 7 he said "I didn't want to fight; I didn't want to sit there with the two of them and I didn't want to go home either.” Actually, I think that is what I would have done if I were him. This experience left a trail on him. On page 9 she said "But there still seems to be an element of that evening in everything that has happened to me since; all my other romantic stories seem to be a scrambled version of that first one." This tells us an important moment In Rob's life as a big trail in his life.
Penny Hardwick the" NICE" girl and Rob’s second split up. Penny did not let him to touch her or do anything with her, so he decided to leave her. By the time he was growing up, his thoughts change to something little bit mature. He was looking for something more than hands contact; he was looking for "sex". On page 11 he implied how he got some of those ideas from other guys, he said "Are you getting any?; Does she let you have any?; how much does she let you have?; and so on. " This tells us that the most important objective to Rob was to get everything he could sexually. So when he realized he will not “get any”, he gave up. Days after that Rob knew that Penny went out with other guy called Chris Thomson , a boy who had had more girlfriends than all the rest of us put together. One day maybe three weeks after his last cling with Penny, Thompson came clamorous into the room. Rob also know it wasn't nothing to feel proud of because of the bad news, in page 14 Thompson said "Oi, Fleming, you spastic. Guess who I knobbed last night?." Rob felt stupid, and small, and much, much younger than this unpleasant, big-mouthed silly. Everyone knew that Thompson got whatever he wanted from whomever he saw and this time was Penny. I think that Rob did not felt humiliated because she left him for another guy. I think it was because someone else got her faster than him. Right after Penny left him he try to take revenge. On page 13 he said" I went out with a girl called Kim, who I knew for a fact had already been invaded, and who (I was correct in assuming) wouldn't object to being invaded again.” We can inferred that this girl called Kim have had sexual relations with other guys and she will permit Rob have sex with her easily. Finally his thoughts about this relationship was a little bit confused. On page 14 he explained it with these words. "I still couldn't understand what had happened. How had this transformation in Penny been effected? How had Penny gone from being a girl who wouldn’t do anything to a girl who would do everything there was to do? Maybe it was best not to think about it too hard' I didn't want to feel sorry for anybody else except me." Rob felt bad because he did not got any and Penny finally had sex with another guy because maybe she though the new guy will going to leave her if she doesn’t have sex with him.
Jackie Allen was the third break up and also a secret relationship. Jackie was his friend, Phil's, girlfriend. Strong reason to keep it in secret right! on page 16 Rob tells us a bit about Jackie's relationship. "We met in secret and phoned each other in secret and had sex in secret and said things like , what are we going to do?, in secret and talked about how nice it would be when we didn't have to do things in secret anymore. I never really thought about whether that was true or not." So one that Rob saw Phill and Jackie huddled together in a corner, Phill was pale and near to tears. At the next day Rob and Jackie didn't have to do things in secret anymore; and they lasted about three weeks making the third split up in Rob's life. He felt uncomfortable but at the same time free. After Jackie break up Phill to be with Rob he was thinking how to tell her get away from him because he didn't feel anything for her anymore. Later on when nobody likes each other, Jackie went back to Phill and things didn't go back to the way they had been. Finally in page 19 he finished the experience down saying "In a few short weeks, mock-marital status had ceased to be something to aspire to, and had become a cause for scorn. At seventeen, we were becoming as embittered and unromantic" because they bored from each other.
Maybe you are wondering how Rob's life improve with all these memories, well, me too. Rob seems to be a bit insecure but I don't think he is the sort of guy who doesn't know anything either. Definitely I think that Rob's life is interesting because is full of experiences that should happen me and I feel identity with some parts of his story. I learned from Rob that we have to make decisions whenever we think is right and never being insecure. That is what I think Nick Hornby wanted to learn from ourselves. Have sex is important but not the most when you hurt someone else because sex is just an issue.

Essay # 3 Homeless Shelter

Salomon Sanchez
October 27, 2009
Composition # 3, Draft # 2
HOMELESS SHELTER
As we already know, the decision to build a homeless shelter or a shopping mall is not easy because both will benefit the community, the homeless shelter would improve their homeless life making it not so hard providing them, a safe home, clothes and benefits that they are not able to get in the street and build a shopping mall would provide comfort to the community giving the chance to do not travel for a long time trying to find another shopping mall close to their house. Building a homeless shelter is beneficial for New York City because it will provide jobs, improve Community education, and provide health care to the homeless.
Building a homeless shelter will increase jobs. First of all a homeless shelter can provide opportunity to work for construction workers. In order to build a shelter we will need many different workers. We need carpenters, engineers, plumbers, electricians, painters. Currently unemployment rate is very high. Hiring people to build the shelter is going to lower it. Secondly, some homeless need help from social workers. Social workers will have a chance to find employment working in school. Finally, building a homeless shelter will help to give a chance for doctors and nurses to work. Homeless people need medical attention, so doctors and nurses could offer their services. A homeless shelter is another place that doctors and nurses can get jobs. A homeless shelter provides many different jobs.
A homeless shelter would be a good option for the city to improve Community Education. Writing and reading skills can provide goodwill for homeless children. Writing and reading skills for homeless children is expected to be an important opportunity to make them success in school by giving them free education. After the graduation of school homeless going to find a job working as any mayor they chose to stop being homeless. Secondly, sex education can help homeless especially young people t having protection though their sexual life. The most common mistake that teenagers make is having sex without protection because they didn’t had enough sexual education. This will prevent diseases such as A. I.D.S. Finally financial education will teach homeless how to management their money. Once they get out from the homeless shelter, they will be prepared to make financial decisions by taking accounting classes in the shelter and managing their own bills correctly like paying rent.
Building a homeless shelter will lower the crime rate. First of all homeless should lower the drugs used. we all know that many people who used drugs are homeless, and what the shelter will make is provide them something else to work on with and try to keep them busy for example working as cleaners in the shelter preventing the possibility to used drugs. Secondly the homeless shelter will lower murder. Being homeless has high probabilities to be killed by someone because they don’t have any place to sleep in or they are discriminated against because they do not even take a shower. Building the shelter can offer safe places to live and decrease the murder rate. A homeless shelter will decrease robberies. We can see in the street that many of the criminal people are homeless teenagers who kill and rob because they think in the wrong way causes high percent of robberies, the homeless shelter is expected to help that people to grow with right ideas in their minds such as, study and work hard about what they want in life like make their goals success. The crime rate has been considered during long time caused by homeless people and is time to finished building a shelter.
